Family of four needs help

Requesting: $500

Location: Perris, CA

Hello, I am asking for help from the community because of a series of circumstances that have pushed my family to the brink homelessness and often times, actual starvation. I am hoping to find a way out of this vicious cycle that we have found ourselves in before it is too late. I am asking for the full donation of $500 because at this point any bit will help to keep my family of four from homelessness.

In March 2012, my husband lost his good paying job of five years. He was then forced to go on unemployment, during which time I continued to work. However, the unemployment combined with my income was not enough and our home was foreclosed on in September of 2012. We are now renting a home that is at a higher monthly cost than our original house payment because that was all that was available to rent. At the beginning of this year, my husband went off unemployment and began working for a relative. After six weeks, the relative did not pay him his wages. Four months ago my husband was able to find a job at $8.00 an hour, thirty hours per week. We have been able to survive by selling off most of our possessions, borrowing money from friends , doing odd jobs on top of our regular jobs, payday advance loans, a small 401k loan that I am currently paying back weekly, and we have even pawned our wedding rings. Last month I received a wage garnishment from the California State Franchise Tax Board for the amount of $2,931.87 for wages that earned prior to my husband losing his job. They take almost $400 out of my paycheck monthly. Almost two weeks ago my husband was injured at home and will not be able to return to work until the 15th of this month. This is the final straw for my family.

Unfortunately, we do not qualify on paper for any type of assistance because the wage garnishment, payday loans, and dental bills are not accounted for. We are $2000 over the annual income limit for the free and reduced lunch program. My daughter does not eat at school. Most weeks I am only able to afford enough groceries for two dinners per week and that is usually at the expense of a bill that can be pushed to a later date. The rest of the week we get by on very little. My kids will usually eat at friend’s houses and my husband and I do without. We are at least one month behind on all of our utilities. Our two vehicles are paid for but are very old and are both requiring serious maintenance. Registration has not been paid yet for either vehicle for this year and now the DMV is threatening a wage garnishment as well. I am embarrassed to write this down and ask for help because this is not the life I have hoped to provide for my family. However, I must show my children that it ok to ask to ask for help when needed. I realize that their needs are greater than my pride. Any money donated will go towards paying my vehicle registration and repairs so that I can continue to travel to work in the hopes that I will be able to eventually pull my family up out of this hole and put myself in a position to someday be able to help others break this vicious cycle as well. Thank you for your time and consideration in reading my story.
